Year 12 Ancient History and Year 7 Gifted and Talented students attended an excursion to the Nicholson Museum at Sydney University. The students were given a tour of the museum with a focus on Ancient Egypt mummification process and the afterlife which reflected syllabus outcomes taught in Year 7 while the Ancient History students were given a in depth presentation on Roman Pompeii which they are currently studying for the HSC.
Our students were also given an opportunity to experience an aspect of the historian's/archaeologist's life using inquiry, interpretation and recording technique to document real artefacts dating up to 7000 years old. Ancient Egyptian scarabs and shabti, Ancient Greek perfume bottles and Roman artefacts and statue reliefs were handled including a bronze Spartan training sword.
