Titration competition
Great news, with our titration team coming 8th at the Sydney and greater regions venue for the National Finals of the RACI titration competition.

What is a titration?
It is a very accurate method of finding the amount of acid in common substances, such as juice, vinegar, wine and pharmaceuticals. You put an accurately known amount of acid and an indicator in a flask, and then run the base into the flask until the indicator changes colour, showing you the acid has been neutralised. Accuracy and care is of prime importance, the girls need to read volumes to .05mL! Penalties are applied for how far off the true answer they are.
Our team travelled to the UNSW on Saturday 12 September for a 3 hour competition, followed by presentation after lunch. Our winning team from the heats comprising of Zeinab, Rachel and Humaira worked tirelessly in their own time to train the new competitors to the high standard required, with Rachel and Humaira already being committed to a youth conference on the weekend of the completion. Twenty eight schools were involved at the University of New South Wales, as well as some other venues around Australia. There were some top independent private schools represented, as well as selective high schools and senior colleges. We were really happy when we received 8th position, as we had not scored ourselves that well in practice at school.
‘We are very proud of the girls and Ms Gill for this outstanding achievement.' Ms J Beek, Principal
