As Term 1 comes to an end, I would like to reflect on our start to 2018. We certainly had a busy term; we ensured that our high expectations were clear for students and we jumped straight into learning. Year 12 completed their half yearly examinations which is significant to their preparation for their final two terms and the HSC. Year 11 found the workload difficult to manage at first, however now seem to have settled in well. Teachers have delivered the new Year 11 syllabi with confidence and expertise and have allocated a substantial amount of school funds to ensure we have the most up to date resources for our students.
A couple of highlights this term were our International Women's Day celebrations along with a Professional Learning opportunity called "Future Schools". International Women's Day had the theme of #PressforProgress and Moorefield Girls invited our 2011 School Captain and DUX to return to the school and deliver her message. Katerina is currently a lawyer at the NSW Court of Appeals. Her accomplishments are amazing: UNSW Dean's List for Academic Excellence (2012, 2013), International Finalist - Young Women in Public Affairs Award, HSC Distinguished Achievers List, Young Citizen of the Year. Katerina's speech to the girls at our IWD assembly focused on messages of having the confidence to pursue your dreams and making the most of every opportunity that comes your way. She was truly inspirational and a very proud Moorefield Girl. Katerina has committed to continuing her contribution to our school and I look forward to this very special partnership benefitting our girls.

In week 8, Mrs Gill, Ms Stone and myself attended a conference in Melbourne called "Future Schools Expo" with Sir Ken Robinson as the keynote speaker. Teachers attended from across Australia and overseas. I place high importance on being a school who is at the forefront when considering the latest trends and research in education, as well as the technology available to us. This conference will help us plan for the introduction of the new Digital Technologies curriculum in 2019 and provided invaluable insight into improving student engagement and performance. If you can find a quiet moment, visit http://sirkenrobinson.com/ and read about his latest book "You, Your Child and School."
On a sadder note, Moorefield Girls High School will farewell Ms Rachelle Pirie who has been at the school for 8 years. She was successful in gaining a promotion to Head Teacher (Teaching and Learning) and we congratulate her on this great achievement. She has been an extremely committed staff member and she is an expert in her field. Ms Pirie will be missed by all, however we wish her all the best and know that this school develops and supports our staff to be the best they can be.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday break. Looking forward to seeing you in Term 2.
Ms N Hale, Principal
