"Exciting Times Ahead" At Moorefield Girls High School
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Principal of Moorefield Girls. I started this term, feeling extremely welcomed by both the staff and students. Ms Daniels and the executive team have been key to the smooth transition that occurred when I started. I enjoy being in the playground at recess and lunch, talking to the students, who are constantly telling me about all of the fantastic initiatives and programs that are running in the school. The feel of the school is calm, caring, aspirational, and future focused. ‘Inspiring Young Women' is spot on.
I have visited many classes over the last few weeks and have been impressed with the teaching and learning that is occurring. Teacher expertise in their subject areas is obvious, and collaborative and innovative practise is all around. The recent upgrade of furniture and resources, along with the new coat of paint, has created a very pleasant environment to support student learning and engagement. I will continue to keep the focus on student learning and achieving improved results.
I applied for the position of Principal at Moorefield Girls to be able to lead this school into the future, knowing it has a long history of providing exceptional opportunities for girls. This term, I will work hard to get to know the Moorefield community (students, parents, local primary schools, local groups) and spend time listening to its members. My focus will also be on the ‘Bump It Up' Literacy and Numeracy strategy which assists our middle students move into the higher achievement levels. In Term 3, the school will be working on the design of the 2018-2020 school plan which will require community consultation. It will be the time for decisions to be made about how we can give our young women the best chance of success and happiness in a changing economy and society. I look forward to receiving your input. My other focus in Term 3 will be Year 12 - I set high expectations regarding commitment and work ethic leading up to Trial and HSC examinations. I am sure the students will rise to the occasion.
In my previous schools, I have always worked closely with parents and welcome the opportunity to do this at Moorefield Girls. I encourage you to make contact with me at any time. Our next P&C meeting is on Wednesday 24 May at 6.30pm and I ask that you consider attending.
For now, here is a snapshot of my first 3 weeks at this fabulous school.
