Welcome Back
A very warm welcome to our new and returning students and families for what I anticipate will be a year of personal growth and achievement for all. The year has started very smoothly with new families joining us in all year groups.
Staff Changes
Ms Najem is on maternity leave this year and Ms Darling will be joining us in her place as a Mathematics Teacher. We also welcome back Ms Grein who has returned from her leave in 2016.
We also extend a warm welcome to Ms Mourad who has joined our school to support student learning in Literacy and Numeracy and to Mrs D'Emilio, who will be supporting Year 12 students maximize their HSC results in the Senior Study Program. I am thrilled to employ staff who are so happy to work at Moorefield Girls High School and contribute to our rich learning culture.
Mr Tcaciuc will be relieving Deputy Principal during Term 1 and Ms Portelli will be Relieving Head Teacher English.
I look forward to working with students, parents and staff to strengthen our partnerships and enhance learning opportunities for all our girls throughout this exciting term.
Staff Professional Learning
Effective staff professional learning is the foundation on which the individual learning needs of students are met. We have numerous teams of staff that work collaboratively to ensure that we support our students to develop a wide range of skills which are necessary for their success. Significant projects are being driven by staff teams in STEMS, literacy, writing, numeracy, technology, critical thinking and problem solving. In particular, a project entitled "Bump it Up" will involve experts working with teams from every faculty to embed a whole school approach to reading comprehension and numeracy across all faculties.
21st Century Learning
All students are required to bring their own devices (Laptop, Notebook or iPad) to school every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Our school programs require students to use technology on a regular basis for class work, project work and assessment.
Year 7 has recently been introduced to Microsoft One Note which they will be using for the majority of their subjects this year. One Note is an electronic workbook and allows students to share and work collaboratively as well as allows teachers to distribute electronic worksheets, reading materials and feedback on student progress. We will be providing ongoing support for students throughout this term to allow them opportunity to develop their skills in using the various functions of One Note and be confident users of technology.
For those families who are planning on purchasing their daughter a new device, please click the flyer link for system requirements and specifications necessary to ensure compatibility with our school network.
