Congratulations to the students who completed the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) this year. A number of students were also awarded platinum and gold certificates by completing the challenge on seven or four occasions respectively. Benefits of reading include increased empathy and cultural awareness and completion of the PRC can lead to long term reading success.
A large component of wide reading classes in the library is reading aloud to students. Although reading aloud is often associated with younger students, reading aloud enables the teacher librarian to model fluency, allows students to experience the joy of story, expands vocabulary and develop listening skills. In addition, reading aloud can expose students to different authors, texts and genres while shared reading experiences can also promote narrative comprehension and mental imagery.
