Welcome back to Term 4. It is always nice to see students return to school enthusiastically after a break. This term is an important one with Years 7-10 completing yearly exams and assessments, and Year 11 beginning their Year 12 courses. I would like to take this occasion to introduce our new School Captains for 2018 – Felicity Bryder and Arabella Scott. These two students, along with the Year 12 Prefect group, will very capably lead and support our student body by giving the students a voice in the decision making processes within the school.
We ended Term 3 on a real high with a couple of major celebrations. All of these events were very successful and appreciated by our students, staff, parents and wider school community. The feedback was very positive and I have passed these messages on to staff, who worked tirelessly in the lead up to these events.
60th Anniversary
On Thursday 14 September, Moorefield Girls High School celebrated 60 years of Inspiring Young Women. We had approximately 200 people join in with the school tours, formal assembly and High Tea. Teachers and students from 1957 (our first year) were present, along with many other former students, previous Principals and past school captains. Our current Year 8 students performed the school song, which has not been sung for more than 20 years. Our archives display provided a wonderful chance for our visitors to reminisce and laugh together.
What struck me most about the day was the strong connection former students had with the school. It was obvious in the stories people shared that, over the years, Moorefield Girls has provided plenty of opportunities for girls to gain an excellent education and achieve success in their chosen field. The school values our history and tradition and will continue to work hard to ensure Moorefield has another 60 years of providing outstanding educational opportunities for our students.
Year 12 Graduation

In the last week of Term 3 the staff and students of Moorefield Girls High School, together with family and friends, congratulated Year 12 on successfully completing their high school years at the graduation ceremony. During my address to Year 12, I said "You have shown respect to your teachers and you are role models to next year's Year 12." "The staff of Moorefield Girls speak highly of you as a group, saying how you support each other and how your personal qualities will get you far in life." Both outgoing school captains, Eman and Sue, gave outstanding speeches which were lovely reflections of their experiences at Moorefield. I have quoted them below. We wish our Year 12 students all the best in the HSC examinations which start on Monday 16th October. I am sure we will see some outstanding results and personal bests.
"Thank you to our teachers for assisting me in my role as School Captain and allowing the leadership team to take forward our initiatives. A massive thank you to not only my amazing teachers but all teachers here at Moorefield for providing us with platforms to voice our opinions, share our talents and learn from our mistakes. You have helped us all discover what we are passionate about." (Sue, School Captain 2017)
"Currently, in our world today as we know it, racial, cultural and social atrocities are still taking place in some parts of the world; many children, many girls are still being denied education, being denied a promising future, being denied a voice, even though they were born with the same potential as us. So to this I say, to all the junior and future students, and current year 12s, harness your education, work hard and if not for yourself, do it for the ones who cannot, who do not have such a privilege." (Eman, School Captain 2017)
As always, I welcome parents to contact the school if you have any questions relating to your daughter's education, school events or school processes.
